The Journey of Self-Published Author | Kaira Denee

She is determined, ambitious and still-standing, she is Kaira Denee a self published author, rising to her own fame. She has a story to tell, and she told us. Being rejected 90 times by different agencies after finishing up her book, she built up enough courage to self publish. She took us on a ride of her journey when we spoke to her early last week....

Who is kaira Denee?

Right now, I’m in the finance business which a lot of people find interesting, but I don’t. I served in the national guard for a few years before I became a published author, that was 1999 through 2001.

How long have you been writing and when did you realize this was what you wanted to do? I started writing in 98’, when I went to college I started, on my campus everyone went home on the weekends, so it was boring and one of my friends got me into reading, which just opened up a whole door for me, and I decided I wanted to try to write. It was pretty private at first It was just something I did on my spare time, and once I got older and revisioned and started getting the confidence to let people read it, it became exciting for me, for people to want to hear more and to be like “finish it, finish it! I want to know what happens!”

What was your major in college? Accounting

What made you decide to self publish instead of going directly through an agency? I didn’t know anything, I just really went to Google, and I saw that you should write a query letter to an agent and I sent out about 100 query letters and got 90 rejections and a couple of people asked to read more and it kind of killed my confidence like noone loves my books as much as I do. I didn’t like the rejection and that’s when I went back to Google and found out about self publishing.What do you love most about being an author? Living through characters that I write. A lot of people, if you know me, I’m a little shy and when they read my books their really surprised, like oh my gosh I didn’t know you could be so dramatic and so sexy or whatever. I like to live through them, its fun.

Is there anything you dislike? Book signings, which is terrible, they’re really draining, you kind of feel like when you’re not as well known as the other authors, you kind of feel like a used car salesman. People pretend like you’re not there. “I don’t want to buy your book, I don’t know you”, but it can be fun at the same time too.Was it a lot of money to self-publish, were you breaking your pockets? I want to say total I spent 5,000 but on the other end you get 100% back. The good thing about self publishing is that you have books on hand, and like the money is so much quicker and easier but at the same time you are responsible for invoicing, and distributors so much of the business part, that it was hard to be an author still.

How long does it take you to write a book/finish a manuscript? The shortest time for me has been about 8 months.

In the middle of finishing a manuscript have you have gotten discouraged? What inspired you do keep writing? What keeps me going is just, I’m a mother, and when she reads my stuff, she’s like “oh you got to finish this!” she gives me ideas, and she’s just so motivating, and when I feel like no one wants to read this, what am I talking about, she’s like “oh my god what are you talking about, this is good, keep going!”

Do you need a certain mood to write? Usually when I write, I write with the music on, music inspires me. I like quiet, I like to be alone, and really early morning, I can really zone out and focus.

What else would you like to accomplish besides writing? I would love too write articles for a magazine, I mean so much, but I would love to have my own publishing imprint.

Advice you have for up and coming authors? Be prepared have tough skin, I wasn’t prepared for the amount of criticism. People would talk to you sometime, like you’re not a person. I’m at a book signing, and someone would bring a book like “OH! this is you? I saw your myspace page and you look way better in real life,” or “I didn’t like the ending of your book,” and everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I put a lot of hard work into what I do, but you have to learn to nod your head and say thank you, you know have tough skin.

What advice does Kim have for single ladies, what does it mean to be single? "Just not having to answer to anyone but yourself. Trying to do you." says Kim. She couldn't have said it any better! The only thing that sucks about being single is no intimacy! How does Kim deal with that? "I have to be in a relationship in order to be intimate. I’m not the one-night-stand kind of girl. Despite the rumors."

Reggie explains their relationship together, "“We have a great relationship. We’re both in the limelight so it’s actually good for me and her. We both understand what goes with that and it’s going to make us stronger in the long run. A lot of the outside stuff you just have to ignore and live your life and you can’t allow people to dictate how

This couple is different because Angela's boyfriend is a different race than hers, he is half Venezuelan and half Argentinean. Angela has noticed that she is usually being stared at because of the difference in skin color. Here is what she had to say about this, “I am a lil surprised at the number of people that seem to disapprove of the relationship with my boyfriend. I find this reality to be kind of hard to accept. There are times when I notice people giving us long hard stares and those stares are usually from my own people, Honestly, I wish everyone could benefit from the beauty that can come from experiences that happen outside of your own comfort zone. It is truly a beautiful thing that can add so much to your life. Give it a shot and you can learn so much from a person you never thought you’d talk to or have something in common with. I’m not just talking about dating but about all types of relationships.”

Kudos to Cudi | Three Grammy Nominations

It has been an amazing year for this grammy nominated 25 year old rapper! Out of 100 Cudi placed #10 in BET's TOP 100 songs of the year for Billboard chart topper "Day and Night". Cudi went from a nine to five job in NYC to major rap career, performing live on stage with legendary rappers like Jay-z. So, How did he do it?What advice does he have for aspiring young adults.

[Believe, believe and never stop believing, ‘cause anything is possible and I am a perfect, perfect example of that. There’s no reason in hell why, if you work hard at something, you can’t succeed. He believed alright, at the age of 20 Cudi released his mixtape named A Kid Named Cudi which quickly caught the attention of Kanye west, immediately signing him to GOOD music. On September 15, 2009 Cudi released his debut album Man on the Moon selling 104,000+ copies in it's first week.

We salute and congratulate Cudi, it's been a huge year for him, and what a way to end it off with three Grammy Nominations! In Hill Harper's 2008 Letters to a Young Sister, Chanel boldly expressed her definition of what 'being attractive' is:

The Game: Hiatus or Cancelled?

The rave about this show is unbelievable. "Yo do you watch The Game!?" is the popular question everywhere. If one isn't hip to this show yet, perhaps you're living under a rock. One of the things that confuses me the most is: if the show was so HOT, why did it get cancelled?

Originally the show was being aired Friday Nights, why schedule a show to air weekly on such a popular night? No one stays home on Friday nights to watch TV. We deserve a show like this on air! So what exactly happened to it. Hiatus or Cancelled?

After the third season the CW dropped the sitcom, later being syndicated by BET networks beginning in February of 2009. Rumor had it that the network was going to save the show, however via TWITTER.COM Tia who plays Melanie on the show said it was untrue. “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.”

BET bought the rights of the show, & now rumors have brewed up once again and its looking like the show may not be cancelled but more so on a HIATUS. BET is allegedly picking it up for a fourth season. The best thing for us to do now is just keep our fingers crossed for some REAL progress!

Hawa's Cosmetics Make Up Event! Fabulous in Brooklyn!

"Im your baby, your baby, im your baby" LL Cool J's 2008 hit "Baby" blared through the speakers as cheerful guests pranced around the shop anticipating a free makeover. The beautiful owner Hawa gracefully greeted each customer while offering the finest in white or red wine! Make up Artists fronted their stations dolling up customers with Hawa's Cosmetics. Our own Go2girl Nickia Williams was amongst one of the make up artists.

Hawa took time out to do a quick interview to discuss her success! She is THE most sweetest doll ever!

Thego2girls: How long has your shop been open?

Hawa: 6 months, active for 4 months

Thego2girls: Briefly in one sentence, how long did it take to get the store up and running?

Hawa: It's still a work in progress

Getting to know Lynn James MTV Reality TV Star & Model

Between busy casting calls and bookings we finally caught up with Lynn James. Some of you may know her as the cast member from the spin off show of Run's House, Daddy's Girls. She shares her experiences, knowledge and gives advice. Here's how the interview went..

Thego2girls:Describe Lynn James in one word.

Lynn James:Unique

TG2Gs:What inspired you to want to model, and what steps did you take to achieve your goal?

LJ:I was inspired a lot by my mother and also Supermodel Naomi Campbell runway wise. At the age of twelve I entered the Manhattan Model Search and was chosen by Elite (Chicago). At the time I was in the in between stages of high fashion modeling. At the age of sixteen i went to Model Search of America in Cincinnati, OH. There were about 30 agents there from around the country. I was driven and I was picked by a top ten agency (Marilyn's) along with many others.

TG2Gs:What separates you from other models/What makes you stand out?

LJ:I am very unique.Every time I take a picture or do a runway show I want to do something different to leave my mark.

TG2G:Do you remember your first experience on a runway or during a photo-shoot, how did that feel?

LJ:I was sixteen years old and I had a photo shoot with Eric Fischer. It was a great experience because I could finally express myself through photos. My mother was there also and that part was awkward.

TG2Gs:What do you love most about being a model?

LJ:I love being in high fashion runway shows. The high energy involved with these kind of shows is amazing. That's my favorite part of being a model.

TG2Gs:Besides 'Model'what other title do you want to have under your belt, and what steps are you taking to achieve your goal?

LJ:I am also a singer-songwriter. I plan on learning more on the music side and possibly leaving a great impression on the world like Michael Jackson. He is my favorite artist and if I can just impact the world 1/3 of the way he did I would be happy. I plan on hosting a music show on one of the top music channels. So I can stay current with the music scene but I can also get advice from various artists.

TG2Gs:Describe in one word what it feels like to be on the West Coast now instead of the East Coast?

LJ:Summertime.

TG2Gs:What is an average day like for you in LA?

LJ: typical day in LA goes as follows; i wake up read my Proverb according to date and I pray. Then I brush my teeth and take a shower. I check my voicemail and emails to see what casting and auditions I have for the day. Usually when its season time, i am preparing for the scenes that will be shot that day. So I clear my mind and meditate on happy and positive thoughts. After I finish all my business for the day i usually walk the trail at Runyon Canyon to collect my thoughts of the day and release any stress that is bothering me. Then I might head up to Sunset Grill to grab a turkey burger or to Rabono's for a chill Italian cuisine. Then I head home and on the way I call my Daddy to see how he is and tell him how my day was. Also I have been sending my mom texts throughout the day. I get back home and I write a to do list for the next day. I write creatively for a bit if anything inspired me during the course of the day. And then i turn on a great album or movie and head off to bed.

TG2Gs:How has your life changed since Reality TV/ Has it made or changed you?

LJ:My life hasn't really changed since I have been on a reality tv show. Ever since I was young I have been use to people staring at me when I walk down a street or into a room. However I have to admit more people are comfortable with just walking up and talking to me now.

TG2Gs:What was your first reaction when you first heard about being a cast member on Daddy’s Girls? How did you feel about your life being taped?

LJ: Why honestly I wasn't surprised. Back in college me and Vanessa used to talk about us having our own show. So it was kinda like an answered prayer. It was surreal really.

TG2Gs:What was your favorite episode/moment of Daddy’s girls this season or last season and why?

LJ: All of the moments are great. My top two favorite moments were the camping one and the Macy's fashion show one of this season. Such GOOD TIMES!

TG2Gs:Describe in one sentence what your definition of friendship is?

LJ:Loyalty and kindness through good times and bad times.

TG2Gs:Friendship is very important especially for young ladies, when did your friendship with Vanessa Simmons begin? How did you two meet? and how do you guys stay strong and keep that friendship going?

LJ: My friendship with Vanessa began in college. I met her through a common friend of ours names Tamara Conner. Ness and I have our disagreements every now and then but we always know how to communicate those things with each other. We are also spiritual friends and I know that has a lot to do with the strength of our friendship.

TG2Gs:Some of the fans of the show noticed the disappearance of Alycia Bellamy on Season 2 of the show and also the “beef tweets” on Twitter. Can you speak on it, and are you and the girls still friends with Alycia?

LJ: I would rather not speak to much on this subject. I will say this, I hope she has nothing but success and happiness. I can't speak for anyone else.

TG2Gs:What was your major in College, St. Johns?

LJ:Journalism

TG2Gs:Are you dating or in a relationship, why or why not?

LJ:I'm not dating or in a relationship at all. I am married to my career right now and very faithful to it.

TG2Gs:Do you remember your first date or Prom Night, if so tell us a funny significant moment that occurred?

LJ:Yes I remember Prom Night like it was yesterday. I was suppose to be taken to the dance by my father but something came up and he couldn't go anymore last min. I was sad at first so I wore a terra to prom. I was nominated for prom queen and I won. But the funny thing is since i wore a tierra to the dance they tried to not give me the actual winning crown. It was coold though I still have the title. :)

TG2Gs:Who is your favorite fashion designer/where do you like to shop and why?

LJ:My favorite designer is YSL. I love shopping at classic vintage shops. Because you can find a lot of great things there for a cheaper price too.

TG2Gs:Facebook or Twitter?

LJ: Both

TG2Gs:What is the last CD that you bought/Who is your favorite artist and why?

LJ:The last cd I brought was Black Summer's Night by MAXWELL. Micheal Jackson is my favorite artist because he redefined the word music.

TG2Gs:What is your mantra in life?

LJ:I can do all the things through Christ who strengthens me.

TG2Gs:What's your favorite Tv show/movie?

LJ:My favorite tv show is "100 Days After Humans Are Gone". My favorite movie is "The Wizard of Oz"

TG2Gs:What is the one thing you can NOT live without? ex..lipgloss, weave, candy

LJ:I can't live without candy!!!

TG2Gs:What is the best piece of advice you can give everyone in your age group to stay focused and achieve their dreams?

LJ:The sun may not be shining all the time but after the storm there is always a rainbow. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something. And of you make a mistake just learn from it and move on.

Getting to Know Miasha Coleman - Essence Best Selling Author

Since, I am an author in working progress, one of my many inspirations, hands down would have to be Miasha Coleman. Not only has she inspired me with her mantra "Don't dream your life, live your dreams," but at such a young age, she has accomplished so much.

In 2006 Miasha unleashed her debut Novel Secret Society which went on to be the best sell

ing novel of that year, still being 2006 Miasha released another novel entitled Diary of a Mistress which earned her, her crown of Essence best selling author, two novels in one year? Now that's DOPE!

Furthermore, she was a first time author getting a six figure deal. It doesn't get any better than that! or does it? Fast Foward 3 years on, Miasha is now a play-writer of her very own stage play, her debut novel Secret Society was brought to life on stage in Atlanta, hosted by Actress Vivica A. Fox and co-hosted by comedian Lil Duval. With that being said, I just had to get in touch with Miasha's publicist and propose an interview for our blog, because she is such an inspiration to alot of young girls and men. We were granted the interview, and she was such a pleasure to talk too, Here's how the interview went:

Thego2girls: Briefly tell us how you’re journey to stardom began

Miasha: Well....I’ve always known I wanted to be a writer I just didn’t know that it would happen so soon in my life. I thought I would like work until I was 50, retire and then like write my life story, but it was very coincidental that at my college graduation Karen Quinones Miller, another author was the keynote speaker and her story on how she got started was kinda like she stumbled into becoming a best selling author, and it really inspired me because I knew that, that was something I wanted to do since I was a kid, so I figured if I had this passion since I was young, I knew I could do it, if she did it…… so I decided to write my first book after college Secret Society and here we are…

Thego2girls: Describe in one word how it felt to see your name in print for the first time.

Miasha: (Exhales) umm ecstatic even to this day, like my aunt is down from Philly and we went to the Borders, because she wanted to get some books to take back with her, I had to sign them for her before she left, and, just to go to the shelf and see you know a book on the shelve at borders that has my name on it and my face on the back and I know that, you know, that’s my work, its overwhelmingly joyous to me..

Thego2girls: We were waiting to see you at the Harlem Book Festival, What happened?

Miasha:Well, I was doing the play, uh we just did the play in Atlanta last weekend, and so that kinda had me, you know, wrapped up, I was down here in Atlanta July 1^st,we were down here the whole time just making sure that everything was going the way it needed to go…but I’ll make the Harlem Book Fair this year.

Thego2girls: Do you remember your first experience at the Harlem Book Festival?

Miasha:Yes! I WAS very overwhelmed because it was just so many people and so many authors and so many books and so much going on and it was exciting, and it was uh..exhausting and it was like every emotion all in one, but umm I just remember being very hustle minded

, my mind was just focused on maintaining my spot in the industry and thinking of bigger and better things to do, to stand apart basically.

Thego2girls: Exactly, and what makes you stand apart, what makes you different?

Miasha:I noticed one thing off the bat, and it really made me notice it from somebody else telling me, basically it was like my look and stuff, cause I’m very much into fashion, I love the high heels shoes! So you know it’s just me, its who I am. A lot of my fellow authors, they wear their flats and their comfortable clothes..

Thego2girls:Yeah cause when you think of Author, you expect them to look older....

Miasha: that's true too, so I’ve gotten that a lot, that people think I sing or something, someone at the festival actually pulled me to the side and said “oh wow, I shouldve worn my heels and my get up,”….. and I said this is just me all day everyday…..but it made me think, like you see all the other authors and their pretty much dressed down and just comfortable and stuff.

Thego2girls: What keeps you inspired, what keeps your pen writing?

Miasha: I look to music, I look to movies for inspiration, I loveee a really really good movie and really good music, like lyrical content, it really moves me and inspires me to write. Earlier I had a lunch date with She'ree from The Housewives of Atlanta, and I was driving to it, and I was listening to this old CD that I had, I just kind of came across it and it was Lil Wayne and I was just listening to it, and I wanted so bad to just turn around and go back home and go to the computer, I was so inspired.

Thego2girls: Okay, Lets talk about your press, you are blowing up pretty much everywhere, can you describe in one word how you felt when you saw your spread in ELLE magazine?

Miasha: Honestly, the ELLE spread was a blessing, I was blessed I was really blessed, because you know ELLE magazine is like crossover, it’s more conservative, it’s music, its fashion, so when they decided to feature me that was already to me, like huge, but then when I saw how much attention they dedicated to me and my books and the whole movement, I was just blown away, that was a big deal

Thego2girls: Okay, we have to talk about the stage play, How did you link up with Vivica A Fox and Lil Duval and how was it working with them?

Miasha: It was a pleasure working with both of them. Vivica came about a few years ago at my Sister 4 Sale release party was in conjunction with Carl J’s celebrity hair and fashion show, and Carl J’s a celebrity stylist, he's been styling Vivica and Meagan Good and a few others, for a few years, and so he brought them to his hair show, and of course it was my release party too, so I was there and I actually met Vivica then, it was really brief though but um I always wanted to get her to do something, and I figured the play in ATL would be great, I knew she loved Alanta, she has family out here so, um I basically linked up with Carl and asked him to make that happen for me and she was 100% down with it, she is such a big supporter of African American theater, so she was very much on board from the start, and Lil Duval, it was kinda funny cause my husband and I we been in Atlanta for just over a month, and we were just out to eat one day for lunch with some friends, and T.I’s manager walked in and he spoke to us, and we introduced ourselves and stuff, and we just got the talking about the play and he had mentioned that he also manages lil duval, and we’re like you know what, we’re doing a play in a couple of weeks out here, you know, we would love for him to come down and co-host with Vivica and do a little bit on the stage and stuff, so that’s how that worked.

Thego2girls: How did you link up with She'ree?

Miasha: That was kinda coincidental too, cause she was in philly for Charlie Mack’s celebrity weekend and Charlie Mack and I are really good friends and she heard about the play out there, and then she heard about it again through one of the actors in the play that she met, and then the third time when she got back to Atlanta the buzz around town was the play. So she was like, I need to go to this play, so she ended up coming.

Thego2girls: How did it feel bringing your characters to life on stage?

Miasha:It was a relief actually, cause it had been such a journey, such a long hard gruesome process. I mean from the beginning it was casting, because with the book, its so much different when you do a play that’s based on an already created work, cause you have to live up to that hype you know, so if people read the book and they visualize these characters in their mind, then you gotta give them as close to that as possible on stage and so when it came to Secret Society these girls are really fly they're really beautiful, they have all this swagger, the guys too. So its like we need all of this as well as good acting, so its not easy to find, its like a total package. So we had to go through a lot with the casting process, then once we did cast, during the rehearsals and it’s just a lot of work going into production, so when that opening night came, and those characters were up there and my book actually came to life, it was a relief, it really was.

Thego2girls:Ever since your journey to stardom began I couldn’t help but notice how many celebrities you were able to come across, who was your favorite to have met and why?

Miasha: hmmm, there has to be several

Thego2girls: cause we saw you with Kanye, Jay-z

Miasha: KANYE!, is funny because kanye, (pause) like the girls that was with me when I met kanye they was like “he was on you girl!” it was funny because it was flattering, you know, kanye west..good looking, very successful, so if hes on you, that’s a flattering thing, but of course I was married then so, and im married...

Thego2girls: now

Miasha: you know. So it was like no thank you, but that was interesting just to know, you know I met kanye (laughs)

Thego2girls: Were you guys meeting up, or was it a coincidence

Miasha: No, we were on rodeo dr, we were in town for the NAACP image awards, we were in LA, and he was uh I think he was being..he was recieveing and award and he was a also presenter that year but um we were walking past the store, what store was it (pause), I cant even remember but he came to the door and waved for us to come in, and we didn’t even realize that it was kanye west at first when we walked past, until he came out and waved for us to come in, and at that point we were like oh yeah, so we wanted to.., I was just starting out and my book hadn’t even come out yet, and the girl I was with she was an author she already had a book out, so we were like lets plug in with Kanye, so we gave him our cards and stuff, and told him what we got going on and stuff like that, and then he wanted to talk to me but I was married like I said (laughs) and we took the picture, and that was it.

Thego2girls:On Twitter it says “You wrote your way out the hood” Describe your hood, what is one thing you would keep or change about it?

Miasha: Well, it was too hood for me, before, I would say up until about, 87-88, um it was a pretty good situation, it was very close knit, like my block was very close knit everybody was like family, we felt safe playing out in the street, the nieghbor’s looked out for each other, that type of thing, and then the crack era really hit hard, people’s parents who came addicted or who was already addicted to drugs, it started to show more, you know..houses became crack houses and so that is where it changed drastically for me, and I saw the other side of the hood that was like totally self destructive, just one place that you wanna escape by all means, and so the one thing that I would change about it, is that crack never ever ever touched down there and the one thing that I would keep, is that it stayed that homely you know family oriented street, that really raised the kids, you know the saying it takes a village to raise a child, well that was that village before the crack.

Thego2girls: How has your life changed now that you are “The Writing Diva”, and well known an respected author?

Miasha: Umm well really the only thing that has changed is that people do regconize me, and I have fans, I have people who I don’t know that know me of me through my books, and really love what I do and you know I hadn’t had that before, but really me as a person I am the same exact person, like my family like is the same, I have always been with my husband since I was 14 years old so nothing has changed there, so status wise, financially things of course have changed, and opportunity wise, im actually doing things that I never would’ve imaged umm even with different celebrities but also with the production doing lunch dates in LA for reality shows, and movies and stuff like that. The lifestyle has really changed and that’s it.

Thego2girls:Now that you are a Novelist and a Playwriter, are there any other titles that you want under your belt?

Miasha: umm definitely I want to be a film maker, I wan to have my own clothing line, um I want to do my own jewelry line, I want to ..look I got a list (laughs) but you know what I really wanna do is brand myself, and I want to be able to create generational wealth, you know so , everything that I could think of that I would like to do, or I would like to try im going to use this opportunity to go forward

Thego2girls: What projects are you working on now?

Miasha: Im working on Secret Society 3, im writing that, im working on some film deals im working on that aspect of things, im working on touring the play, what else (pause) oh im also doing an online community for my fans, aspiring writers or just fellow entrepreneurs and since I do so much, and I would like to think I have a lot to offer I want to create a site where people can come on and get enough information, resources, share stories you know things that help people climb to the top, I’m definitely working on that too, Miasha Enterprise.

Thego2girls: What is the advice you would give young people like myself to stay focused?

Miasha:Well Number one I always say don’t dream your life, live your dreams, umm that little vision in your head, of whatever it may be, for me it was me sitting at a pool which was my own, sipping on a tropical drink with a few of my family and friends, & I don’t know exactly where it was but that was just the vision in my head, I know I had this this really fabulous house with a pool and I was sitting by it drinking a tropical drink, but the bottom line is whatever that vision is whatever that big dream of yours is, don’t allow that to just stay in your head, don’t let your life be a dream, but actually go out and get it make it a reality and live it.

Thego2girls: a lot of authors also hold seminars, can we look forward to seeing that from you?

Miasha: Definitely! And that will be apart of the online community, where I’ll do web-inars tel-seminars, um like I said I want it to be a place where people to get some really good information some guidance, resources, um I’m all for helping people out, I know how uh especially African Americans we have this um..stigma about us where we feel like we don’t want to help each other out sometimes, or we’re afraid that someone will take our spot, so we’re stingy with our resources, and all the people that I come across who help, that don’t mind sharing their resources I feel like I want to just bottle us all up, and be able to distribute us around, so that we can help other people, so I think the online community will be a place for that.

Now that we were done with the Miasha the Author, we wanted to get to know Miasha the person, so Nickia created some fun, girly questions to get to know 9 fun facts about Miasha.

1. What was your first job out of college?

Secretary at an auto body shop

2. Who is your favorite designer and where do you like to shop?

My favorite designer for clothes, would be Roberto cavalli, and I love to shop at nieman marcus for shoes and clothes, and for like um for special clothes, like if im going out to an event or something, I like boutiques.

3.What is your favorite thing to do on your day off, how does Miasha relax?

I like to watch movies and eat food, and snacks and chill, I’m a home body so I don’t mind sitting on the couch and flipping through the channels all day, as long as I have a bunch a snacks. (laughs)

4. What is the last CD you bought and who is your favorite singer/rapper?

The last CD that I bought with my own money?

Thego2girls (laughs) yea.

Miasha: (laughs) only because My husband is the CD person, so he goes out and buys all the CDs, but I guess his money is my money so, the last CD I bought was umm I think fabulous new CD….my favorite rapper is Jay-z, and I guess my favorite singer is his wifey (laughs) might as well.

5.Name one thing you cant live without?

I guess if I would have to say something that I cant leave without, would have to be Weave. Yes, indeed, I need my weave (laughs)

6.Twitter or Facebook, I don’t know if youre into that?

I am trying to get more so, because I know how important it is, and it allows my fans to get to know me more, um right now facebook and twitter is running neck and neck.

7.Do you remember your first date and or Prom Night if you went to Prom?

I went to prom with my husband, I went to his prom and my prom, we did two proms that year,

Thego2girls: so you guys are they same age?

uh huh we met when we were 14 on the bus stop and went through the whole high school together, college, even though he didn’t go to college but you would’ve thought he did, cause he was at my dorm so much, um so all of those years were with him. Prom night, I’ll never forget prom night, um I had this really really cute dress, and people didn’t understand, cause I had it made, and at that time me and my husband we started a trend cause I had it made with snake skin leather, and it was like really pretty colors like almost like Coogi, you know how Coogi had the colors and it was mixed up so it kind of had that feel but it was real pastel colors, and the dress was sharp right, and then my husband I had him, well you know he wasn’t my husband then but I had him cover his shoes, his belt, so he had his jacket the snake skin, the belt and the shoes was snake skin, the same exact material as my dress, and then his pants and shirt was like a pale yellow, but we looked really really really hot like cute like nobody had ever done that before, and even when I picked out the material like my aunts and em’ were like what the hell, and I said just wait till you see it and my shoes was covered in that too..but what I remember about prom night is that we were the shit, excuse my language, for my prom, the next week was my husband’s prom and we had a whole different outfit made for that, by a whole different seamstress, this guy came the last minute the day of the prom with my husband’s suit, it did not fit, he was trying to cut stuff in the truck all of this stuff, but it failed, so guess what we had to do? We had to wear the same thing we wore to my prom we had to wear to his prom, (laughs) but you know what it was so hot it had to be seen twice. (laughs)

8.What Mantra do you live by?

Don’t dream your life, live your dream,…but I have another one that was past done to me, when I was a freshmen in college film making was my passion at that time and I went to this black cinema café, something they do annually, I don’t know if they still do it but they did it in new york for independent film makers, and you would go up and watch a movie that was shot and directed by an independent film maker and then you got a chance to ask the film makers questions, at the end so this guy he had did this movie, we watched it and then afterwards he was there available for people to question him, and I kept stalling, I was scared and my friends were like just go and ask him something, anything. So I went up and I said, what advice would you give an aspiring film maker as myself, and he said, “don’t wait until you know everything to try something” and that has stuck with me for forever and a day.

9.What is your favorite show to watch?

Well reality TV has completely taken over and they sucked me right in with them, cause I love like all the reality shows, I love the Altanta housewives right now, umm all the glitzy, glamour stuff, like Mtv Cribs, you know the Fabulous life of whoever, like anything that’s just showing me the glitz and the glamour, I love that stuff it’s very inspiring and motivational.

Harlem Book Festival

I am an author in working progress, so it should be no surprise that I ended up at the Harlem Book Festival this past weekend in Harlem, NY. Now I am bummed to say that this was my first time attending, but at least I attended. Coming from Staten Island it was overwhelming to see all the culture that filled the streets of Harlem, that we lack on Staten Island. I was in love when I saw a fruit stand, serving fresh watermelon with mangos and pineapples for only $3.00, back on Staten Island, you'll be lucky if you find watermelon at the supermarkets. The fruits were impeccable. Not to mention REAL soul food, Mac, collar greens sweet potatoes. DAMN!

That's us on our way to the festival, I was accompanied by my sister at the top and my cousin Agnes.

It was a hustle, authors fronted their booths promoting their books as we passed by. There must of been over 100 booths. I could not complain when I stumbled upon a table selling autobiographies of Malcolm X for $3.oo, now that's what's up! As we continued down we saw protestors screaming for a revolution. This was interesting how people really are strong believers in standing for something! They want to get rid of Obama and all other similar systems. ha, Good luck!

Anyway, we were delighted to have met up with Essence Best Selling Author Tiphani to name a few, she has a few books out, including Expensive Taste. She was a sweetheart, and gave a lot of rewarding advice.

hosts from BET. He also played a crackhead in the movie Poetic Justice. He shared the experience he had on set with Tupac Shakur, he says that he was the "sweetest most down to earth person ever", he explained that the media clearly made him something that he was not. "We use to hang together, talk shit together and everything," he continued "great man".

We met amazing authors and bought great books including Video Vixen Karrine Steffans new one. How to Find, Seduce and Keep the Man you Want.

A lot of people do not approve of her behavior but she is experienced, and sheds light on the negative experiences from her past. This is an AMAZING book, but I am confused about the title because it really does not focus on "seduction" more so on reason why you should treat you're body as a temple, and should not be sleeping with every Tom, Dick and Harry that comes your way. In one of her chapters, she says "there is nothing more sexier than a woman who can have sex, but won't". She may be a "hoe", but she does make some good sense in this one here. I think relationships are overrated but for those of you out there who make them your everything she touches on.. Cheating, Lying and how being too independent can be bad for your health. Why Females Get their nails Done

“Pick your color” the Asian manicurist directs me into the direction of the many different color nail polishes lined up in a row on the shelf. It generally takes me a good ten minutes to select the perfect color that will paint my mood on to my finger nail. Maybe my happy moods would be responsible for the bright colors that I am normally seen wearing, like bright orange or even neon green.

“Have a seat”, says Annie the manicurist.

I plopped down into the oversized cushioned chair, that sucked me right in. There is something about getting a manicure every week that overexcites me. The removal of the old color that was once on my nail with nail polish remover seems to erase my mood from last week. The new color that Annie applies seems to bring about a new state of mind for the week for me. For example, there goes the black polish that Annie is removing from last week, and it is now being replaced with mellow yellow. If my job pisses me off this week, don’t be surprised if you see bloody red painted onto my nails because I will be highly pissed.

What is the importance: The purpose of this event is to promote the idea of brotherhood, peace and pride in the community. Staten Island is the unknown borough; the X or forgotten borough. Unfortunately, although, many may enjoy the “peace” and “quiet” as well as the proximity—toManhattan —this borough may provide, often times this forgotten status allows our youth and younger adults to be over looked and forgotten as well. This is especially the case as it pertains to social programming, investing of opportunity and realistic outreach efforts. As a result the natural problems, obstacles and issues many people from the ages of 17-35 face in the boroughs of New York are exacerbated through this ignorance. It is common to hear people, especiallyStaten Islanders, complaining about the lack of activities and options on Staten Island. And although such resources as Year-up and Street-Wise Partners are open to Staten Islanders, they are based out side of the poorly transited borough and difficult for Islanders to participate in.

We are a group of invested individuals—mainly Staten Islanders—who seek to tackle this issue head on. We want to bridge the gap, and provide Staten Island’s disadvantaged an equal opportunity through research, hard work and action.

How this will be achieved: We have identified a unique affinity for sports specifically the game of basketball. Therefore partnered with the renowned head coach Eddie Watkins, we intend to institute “The 1st Annual Shaolin Classic” which seeks to promote our underline premise of camaraderie among neighbors and love for the community. This as we developed, is to be achieved through various activities and programs, as of now this 3-on-3 basketball tournament.

Everyone had mix reviews on the BET awards. What we fail to understand is that the show was ready to go before MJ passed away suddenly on Thursday June 25, 2009. Once BET got word of the sudden lost, they had to switch gears of the entire show, with less than 3 days to do so. Do you know how hard that had to be? It's not easy ladies and Gentleman, but let's at least give them the benefit of the doubt for switching gears in the memory of MJ.

Let's start off with the emotional appearance of Janet Jackson, I must say I shed a tear once I saw her face, and it seemed as if it was very hard for her to speak on behalf of her family.

But another member of the Jackson family, the head of the family, if you will. Had a different expression on his face, NOT only that but Joe Jackson was on the red carpet promoting his new record label. I personally am disgusted, I understand we have to celebrate MJ but damn, he looks a little TOO happy.

What do you think about this COUPLE?

They are actually pretty cute. Hopefully this relationship will last. There was a clip during the show where Kanye was straight cuffin Amber. Somebody get $20 from this dude! He wasnt lying when he said "I'll do anything for a blonde dyke"

The first word that comes to mind when I think of the moment I met Harlem Born Rapper Juelz Santana is pleasant. Born LaRon Louis James, Juelz Santana rose to stardom in 2002, when he was featured on Cam'ron's "Oh Boy" and "Hey Ma".
"Is that Juelz?", someone from behind me shouted! I turned to see an approximately 5'5 image walking in my direction. I was stunned to see that he was so small. But appeared in person just like on television Baggy jeans, with a white tee and a white bandanna swagging. Before I knew it, I was surrounded by Juelz Santana and his entourage. Certainly this was not on purpose. But I guess "right place, at the right time" is the perfect saying to use in this case.

Camera's were flashing and he inched closer and closer to me, all by concidence, nothing done purposely. We stood shoulder to shoulder, and he was very tiny, but so humble. Alot of people were pulling him in every direction, "Ay, over here, Juelz over here!", not once did this man complain. The only thing that he said was "okay". "sure", "no doubt". Everything he done at this moment was willing. My cousin brought out her camera, because it was just a kodak moment. She was ready to snap the picture, and my only reaction was to propose a kiss to him, not only would it make it a classical picture, but I just thought it was funny. Not to be confused with a groupie, because I did not actually kiss him, just pretended for the camera. He leaned into my kiss, threw up a piece sign, and my cousin pressed the button to take the picture, right on cue.

We all laughed, joked and bickered the moment away with the rapper.

“With the world in such a state of depression, fashion needs to inspire the mind and elevate the mood.” The last time we saw Frances Ojeh she was branding her new clothing line entitled No Name. I sat down with her this weekend and conducted a rather interesting interview. Not only is she still working on her clothing line, but she landed an exclusive fashion internship this semester which granted her access to Fashion Week. Yes, she has firsthand experience and knowledge of the hottest new trends for the spring, and she is sharing it with us.

Barnes & Noble was dull and quiet, considering it was 11am in the morning; the café was very low energy which gave us the perfect setting for the interview.

What have you been up to since the last time you spoke? I have been taking my sewing classes just as serious as my biology classes, because I think its very important for every designer to know their craft and how to actually make the product. I also landed a fashion internship in the City at the right time, during fashion week. So I had access to all the shows. I feel blessed.

Can you tell us what you saw on the runways during Fashion Week? Let me start by saying that it was a rewarding experience, everything a fashionista can dream of, I was working therefore it was hectic but I still got to enjoy the show backstage as well, I saw the models getting ready, I even ran into Chanel Iman who is a very popular high fashion Model, she was a sweetheart. The first collection I saw was YSL, he featured the drop-crotch trousers, he actually started that trend, edging it further along into baglike shorts, rompers and jumpsuits. Then, Tracy Reese looks at nature for inspiration with her structured peplum dresses in vibrant nectarrine and jade colors. Then, D&g (Dolce and Gabbana) featured Tailored beaters, high waisted sailor pants “gold-plated reptile” trendcoat and thick, metallic-shot hand woven knits, also crewneck sweaters worn with ballon shorts. Ballon shorts are actually my favorite piece on the runway.
Can you tell us about any accessories on the runways? Of course, Hobobags, sincerely speaking forget the stiff bags, hobobags offer plenty of more room. I consider sandals and accessory {laughs} therefore I saw subtle stiletto sandals, but I would prefer this particular sandal be worn in earth tone color. Also Marc Jacobs he headlined with Pagoda Shoulder Jackets, Bustle skirts, extravagant mix of monomental costume jewelery, urban and very modern. Also Rodarte is a excellent brand, great skinny pants, notice I said pants, not jeans. Zippered leather jackets also.
Feed us with some Trend Reports Sure, Statement Pants which is a must have for the spring, basically it resembles slouchy jeans with a hint of volume or as a sporty or sleek jumpsuit. Also Character Jewlery, which gets personal.
What colors are trendy?just SHINE, bright metallic colors are another trend I saw on the runway, Gold, Platinum, Silver and more Gold {Laughs} metallics make for a pretty precious spring. Also, Geometric Prints, think big,bold and brillant when it comes to colors.
Wow, anymore last minute designers you would like us to know about? I can not forget Ralph Lauren, who is the king of casual, urban American dressing which offers the new city essential. Balmain-think fabulous 80s, acid-wash jackets and sparkly funky heels! And also Nina Ricci who features deeply romantic faded floral dresses with voluminous sleeves.

Style- style is very uneasy; tops never match bottoms while socks are always two different colors. Old yellow vintage shirts sometimes compliment the rusted out almost damaged knee high boots. Pearls always worn which are inspired by the fashion in the late 1940s, orange retro shirts with ruffles seen going down the middle were once worm with khaki colored pants which were destroyed with rips in them. Rosy Red cheeks and Light gold shimmery eye shadow.

Bedroom - a small space with just a few things in it to make it comfortable. The walls are splashed with purple paint which brings out the color in the bed sheets yet the pillow cases throws off the vibe because its mismatching neon green and neon yellow. Vogue, Nylon and Vibe Magazines are scattered about the purple carpet floor which represents a potential career in writing. Framed pictures of the late great Tupac Shakur hang high on a corner of the wall. Queen sized white framed bed.

Food- Expensive ($15.50) salads with cucumbers and diced onions, colorful with red and green peppers, 7.70z jug of Poland Spring water, Ritz Crackers, Tuna Fish sandwich, egg salad, Rice Crispy Treats, Honey Bunches of Oats Cereal.

Television- Nothing past the year 2000, strictly 1990s movies and sitcoms. The Cosby Show, Sister Sister, Smart Guy, Moesha, The Little Rascals, The Sandlot, Martin, The Fresh Prince of Bel-air, The Parker's, Saved By The Bell, Full House, Family Matters

The show is finnally here, and I am so excited to watch TWO young urban black females make it in this world, despite their advantages with having a mogul for an uncle. Understand I will be glued to my television Indian STYLE!

So far I think the show is a tad bit scripted! But you have to have a story line for MTV to keep you on air! Angela reveals her boyfriend TK dumped her because she wasnt giving him any cooty till they got married. That, I can believe, however on these episodes she is still rocking Tk's jackets. Hmmm as soon as I find a split picture I will post. Anyway I love the show and will sooo watch it every monday. His career began in 1992, as an artist Common has over come many barriers, but as a person, an as a individual Common is such a genuine and humble person. There are few words to describe this man's energy and his devotion to being such a beautiful person. Unlike most artists who have their nose so far up their asses, they don't acknowledge shit (tpain, solange, e.t.c).

I help keep the listening session in order which gave me alot of time to spend with common and his fans, along with the hot 97 listeners and staff. Common's interaction with the crowd was immaculate. He sat in his section with his entourage, which was very few, took off his coat and threw on black framed glasses. "Good evening everyone, my name is Common, I am very happy to be here tonight with all of y'all', we gonna have fun tonight," he said as he gripped the microphone in his hand scanning the crowd in attempt to make eye contact with everyone, which had to be hard because the room was filled "Universal Mind Control y'all, in stores tomorrow,". He passed the microphone off to someone else, after introducing himself (as if we don't know who he is LOL).

This is that new shit. Keep tearing ya mind. That Universal Mind Control, now move your behind. I guess it was the DEEJAY'S cue to drop his new single of the album. The party was filled was industry and record label heads. Common interacted with the crowd and took pictures with everyone. Programming director of Hot 97 Ebro, entered right before common started his performance. His performance was raw, and everyone sung along to every word he spit. I was impressed when he performed "Get em High" Of Kanye's first album "The College Dropout". The night was lovely, Common was content and extra humble and his album is in stores now so by all means necessary cop it. Good shit

For 2008, Brandy's new album Human by far has to be the best album released! I have been a Brandy fan since forever, everyone who knows me, knows this!

When I put my brandy CD in, set my mood and press play, her voice is so soothing and leaves you in a mature zone. She is so grown up, and as a artist Brandy delivers that REAL R&B music. Unlike BEYONCE who is still making "chick head" trashy music. Shes 27 and shes still searching for single ladies? Give me a break. and grow up. Beyonce makes songs for little children "a diva is a female version of a hustle"??? It is pitiful that you can not find a R&B singer out there that isn't immature now a days, and since Brandy is out, I don't have to look no further for satisfaction guaranteed. Brandy has a ACAPELLA track on her album called "Something is Missing" which is number 13. Her voice is so amazing, that she kills this song acapella. Reality TV is the new Never or Has Been Central?????

What has happened to quality programming? Why is everyone so obsessed with so-called "Reality TV?" Why can't the has-beens find another venture or embrace the times and go with the flow?

Heidi and Spencer lived with Spencer's parents; that lavish condo wasn't theirs...it was a location.

Luke, Uncle Luke, Luther Campbell, Mr. 2 Live Crew/ Doo Doo Brown... you make great Skrippa Music...and as long as the world continues to turn, the Skrippas will need a good Luke song.

Everything is scripted...If you want reality put Cameras on regular Joe's (like the plumber) and roll with that.

So this holiday take advantage of the advice from your fellow CSI students and Alumni’s about how to stay effortlessly posh for Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Years!

College of Staten Island Alumni Jason Coke tries to not let the recession get the best of him, by shopping at Brooks Brothers and grabbing his collectables for the holidays. Jason is steady shopping at designer Ralph Lauren’s mansion whose prices are generally reasonable, but if the economy just will not shake you then he suggests the Ralph Lauren Outlets which are located in Central Valley, NY. Ralph Lauren is a classy designer who designs most of his clothing for men, in which he received a city award for. For the holidays Ralph Lauren is highly suggested perhaps a blazer or even a just a plain cashmere sweater. But, whichever you chose, do not forget the bow tie gentlemen. A bow tie adds a playful look to your attempted sophistication this season. For men it will be the highlight of your outfit.

Everyone bum rushed through the doors of a cold Chemistry classroom in 6S, preparing for their professor to walk in any moment to begin the class. “I love the way you put that together!” screamed one of Agnes Ojeh’s classmate from across the room referring to her outfit, right before the professor entered. Every female on campus has their own sense of style and are showered with compliments daily. But Agnes Ojeh otherwise known as the “fashionista” takes the cake according to other CSI students when it comes to Couture. She is a woman with a penchant for shopping and a natural flair for combining both current and vintage fashionable trends. Agnes is influenced by designers rooted from Italy and her favorite pair of shoes in her closet would be her black suede christian louboutins which are famous for its red lacquer sole. When this “Fashionista” doesn’t have her head buried in her Chemistry books she is busy exploring the deep ends of Haute Couture. Haute meaning “high” and Couture meaning “Fashion”.

I sat down with the “Fashionista” in the busy café in the lobby of 1L and she was more than willing to give helpful couture tips to the lovely leading ladies on campus. “Indulge in what you like the most, If you like wearing hooded sweaters, by all means necessary- wear that hooded sweater but make it a statement, don’t wear something you don’t like, just because you see other females wearing it, wear what you like, just make it work,” said the “fashionista”. She continued to preach about winter’s favorite accessories. “I know ladies do not like to be so bundled up in the winter, we want to look cute, therefore I suggest a long trench or pea coat for the winter, and you can not go wrong. Perhaps cap toed suede heels are always a ‘go’ with a long coat. If you are not comfortable in heels, a vintage pair of Steve Madden riding boots will always do the trick. Colors are never a big factor, try and keep it simple and crisp. Sometimes we don’t like wearing the average pair of jeans everyday, so grab a pair of leggings, they are inexpensive and can represent style. You can always compliment your leggings with a dress and shoes or a skirt and boots. Whichever is comfortable and fits your personality.” I enjoyed my interview but right before closing she interrupted “OH YES! And do not forget the hat! Beret hats inspired by the French are always a female’s best friend in the winter,” pleased with her interjection and her last winter tip a smile appeared on her face as we ended the interview. Fashion is a natural hobby for the “fashionista” yet her main goals are to finish school and pursue her dreams of becoming a pharmacist.

Hot 97presents John Legend Listening Session

"Give me the green light, Give me just one night, Im ready to go right now, Im ready to go right now!," a room full of dedicated Hot 97 listeners, sung along to this American soul, Grammy Award Winning artist John Legend. John Legend entered the room, pretty confident, glowing with a big smile. I must admit his personality was off the hook, very humble with a great body. We listened to three tracks off his new album and gave feedback. My favorite would have to be the track on his album featuring Brandy. Good shit.

I wasnt really ABLE TO grasp the enjoyment of the session because I was working, collecting surveys from each listener while distributing raffle tickets for John Legend's Concert. But once I reached down time I was able to admire my surroundings.

"John, dont we look great together!" I joked after our picture was snapped. "Yes,we look great," he replied with a smile.

I can express my self more in words. Everytime I see someone or something, I am able to tell a story. I love to write, like Miasha coleman says, I am a writing diva, a Empress of my pen. I'm working on the publications of my own books and magazines. But for now to build up my resume', I fashion edit for my school newspaper. We all know how I really feel about my school, but what the heck. If you attend the College of Staten Island, you can find issues of my articles in the lobbies of building 1P, 1C, every buidling has The Banner in the lobby, so grab a copy and look for my name Lathleen Ade-Brown in print.

I thought I would do something nice for my fellow bloggers and blog readers, I'll exclusively present my article before it's actual publication date. I sat down with Mike Odumosu and conducted a interview and worked his insight into the article. Gentleman take some tips from him, and perhaps tell me what you think. Thanks and God blessssssss

“I love to be considered an OutKast, I never want to fit in,” says Mike. The artistic demeanor and profound fashion sense of this CSI OutKast can not go unnoticed. Even in this new day and age, College of Staten Island’s Mike Odumosu will not let the true essence of late 80’s fashion die. The influences of popular 80’s rap group Kid N Play can be seen in the low high top fade haircut that Mike boldly sports. Fitted jeans (or some may call them “tight jeans”) a plaid button up shirt; with a vintage pair of Van sneakers are general for Mike.

Gentleman this season throw away the sweatpants, book bags, the basic tennis shoes and ordinary heavy bubble feathered jackets and step into Fall with style. Take it from the OutKast, perhaps a solid color trench coat with a comfortable pair of jeans will set the tone. Compliment your coat with a printed tie and a plaid shirt of course. Do not be afraid to accessorize your outfit, with possibly a Paper Boy hat or a certain pair of shades. Just because the sun is not out, does not mean you can not make a fashion statement. The most important tip is to not be afraid when it comes to getting dressed this season. Try all colors, and have no limits. “I should take a picture of this guy every time I see him, he is a walking manikin, true trendsetter,” says Jonathon Franklin a junior at the College. This OutKast is not afraid to let his personality shine through his cloths. “I don’t think to hard when I get dressed in the morning,” says the OutKast, “I’m sure it shows.” Another important tip is, the bag you carry, YES males can carry BAGS too! An ordinary over the shoulder bag will not hurt your outfit. Last but not least, shoes, not all men like to wear shoes all the time, but perhaps sneakers aren’t always an everyday wear. What is a cross between shoes and sneakers? Loafers! If you want to keep it simple this fall, grab a pair of loafers gentleman, you can not go wrong. Set no boundaries and exclude yourself from a common society. Wear what people dare, and try not to be so typical gentleman and you will be sure to stand out on campus this semester!

Better Late than Never

OCT 10th-12th NC A&T, had their annual Homecoming and being the "Jet-Setting Lady" that I am, I caught the 8:10 flight out of Newark on Friday night. My car was there when I arrived and took me straight to the hotel...to freshen up of course!!!!! Friday was the Step Show (that I missed) in which they were "Stomping on the Yard," followed by an afterparty at Gabriel's in Greensboro.

Aaaahhhh...Gabriels - it was a restaurant, a decent looking restaurant, but that's it. Apparently their team (of event planners) were semi-incompetent and I had to be demanding-and get professional (some may look at it as Bitchy) but who cares? They got paid and tried to act as if they didn't know the deal...

After speaking with the HNIC and his Background dancers, we got our bottle, table and everything was good in the hood. All of a sudden the "Aggie team" got flustered, showed they were unorganized and started rushing to the back part of VIP. Who walks in? Larry Johnson of the KC Chiefs. He was clean, had an entourage with a few guys and a few gals...but there was No Julissa Bermudez (former host of the BET's The Center and TRL).

About ten minutes later Lauren London, Rocsi, Terrance J and Fred Whit rolled in. The Valley Girl, Top Flight Security, The Nice Guy and Mr. Popular. Personally, I'm not sweating NOBODY. I'll pay hommage if I respect your hustle and i think you're talented-but that's it.

The Nice Guy: we exchanged a few words - (he's a very intelligent and grounded Man), took a picture with him, wished him much success and that was it.

Mr. Popular: I wished him a Happy B'day...

So J (a male friend of mine says: "Lauren, Lauren."

Lauren (Valley Girl) says: "They're calling my name."

Then Rocsi, turns into Top Flight Mutha Effin Security and says: "Quit calling her fucking name!!! Yall get the Fuck Outta here. Yall Gotta Go."

I don't what her problem is in life. She has a job-that "some" would kill for. She's not the hottest thing to trot, she's cute-but some people think she's pretty (I think). A few months ago, i heard that her attitude sucked and she was a whore....I don't judge folks by what they partake in and/or how they act unless we have an encounter...but who knows maybe she was having a Bad Night...We have those from Time to Time...

After watching an episode Of Run's House, where Angela Simmons was pitching an idea of having her own Magazine spread. I saw the team behind Angela's Rundown who was making this all come to life. Amongst the crew was Jewelry Designer Allyson Leak. I researched her and saw that she has accomplished so much after graduating from Temple University with a B.A in Journalism. At the age of 20 she co-founded SHE magazine, by 21 she launched Ally Marie Clothing and accessories line, which is FABULOUS! Allyson landed a position at Hype Hair Magazine and is preparing to launch vintage t-shirt and Accessories Collection. This is just to name a few of Allyson's accomplishments. I have been a BRANDY fan since 1994, I was just a 8 year old girl admiring the success of another urban 14 year old singer. I watched Brandy grow up on Moesha, I never missed an episode. I saved up enough pennies to purchase ALL of her albums. I can recall owning her 4th LP entitled AFRODISAC and I lost my original copy. As a replacement I bought 4 more copies to make sure I NEVER lose another Brandy album again. I admire Brandy and look up to her for more reasons than one. If you know me then you already know lol!

Working at a Radio Station (WQHT Hot 97) can have alot of perks to it. I finally understood the true meaning of "Don't ever miss a day of school" or work in this case. I was suffering from the flu when I woke up Monday morning, my body ached, my nose was stuffed and most importantly I could not breathe. No way I could go out there today. I emailed my boss and told her about my illness and how I couldnt come to work anyway because my college was following a Tuesday Schedule (nevermind that because you wouldnt understand) but I decided to take the day off. While in my bed around 3p.m who did I hear on the radio being interview by the legendary Angie Martinez. Yes Brandy, Brandy Norwood. I was upset and taken back by the fact that my dream could of came true right before me at work if I wasn't sick. I beat myself up for a few minutes for missing Brandy by a DAY but I got over it. When I returned to work the next day Brandy posters lit up the room where I sit, everyone had autographed pictures from her, they all bragged of her fun personality. I closed my eyes and THANKED GOD that I missed work, because honestly I do not know WHAT i would have done if i DID actually meet her. What I would say? If I had to hypothesize, I'd estimate that over 100 People were standing on line at the corner of 59th and Lex at 8:45 am. By the time I came out the line was wrapped around the block onto 60th (a few people shy of Park) and if you know NY, you know the blocks between the Avenues are massive. DIESEL is celebrating their 30th Birthday today and to join "Us" in on the fun all around the globe they're offering a limited-edition pair of "Dirty Thirty" jeans for only $50 at selected stores. Not bad for a pair of Jeans, but I prefer 7 For All Mankind, Joe's or Citizens-they do wonders for down under, lol.

Around New York City I see TONS of homeless people. Last week there was the Lady who told me she was full after I offered her an unopened sandwich from Starbucks, the following day there was the guy that said, "I have an Education, I don't want nothing from you!" Then, there was my all time favorite who shouted (to my co-worker) “The Banks just went Under, I'll be seeing you Out Here with me!"

But this week it was a bit different. I noticed two homeless guys asleep in the station so I took it upon myself to leave them Un-opened sandwiches (who know what they did with them). Two days ago, an Asian man with an apple in his mouth had a sign that read “Homeless, HIV+ and Hungry." Today, near the same station an older white man had a sign said: Homeless & AIDS & T Cell 100."

I'm not trying to be harsh, but did they have to go the extra mile of saying that they're infected? Will that make a person more giving or caring? It sucks to be in any of those predicaments and I wouldn't put that on my worst enemy but something needs to be done in this world. Since congress is giving away money, they should consider helping the ones who REALLY NEED It!!!!!

So, if anyone knows me; they know I LOVE Music. It acts as my therapists. My emotions (some songs express my feelings). My work-out instructor (hence, why I'm not as big as a hippo) and a Role Model...it inspires me. Every morning as I was On the 6 (like J. Lo) my iPod was on full blast. While everyone is acting "Conservative" and being dreadful about going to work- I was up and at em! Sarah Palin was coached a bit better, did a lot of name dropping and when times got tough she spoke about the "Energy Crisis" or being a "Maverick."

As she speaks of the war, she says we need to get more money to the troops so we can get troops in Afghanistan. Her views are a re-run of the past 8 years and if we don't "CHANGE," who knows what will come…This War Must Stop!

She contradicted herself by stating that McCain/Palin stands for equal rights...if that were TRUE they'd be pro-choice. As a young woman whose made mistakes in her life, there are some you can fix and others you cant (and/or don't wish to). If one feels as though they're not ready mentally, physically or financially then they should have options.

I believe McCain choosing her was a PUBLICITY stunt.
What possessed him to go to Alaska to choose his running mate? Was that his way of trying to choose a running mate that the "middle class" can relate to? Oh yeah, she's a soccer mom.

A few hours prior to the debate a journalist at the Washington Post said that Palin is very likeable. Who the F cares if you’re likeable? You need to be COMPETENT!!!

Also, to not disclose to Katie Couric what newspapers she follows made her look dumb. Her spokesperson said she was trying to cover her tracks by not naming any but would you rather look stupid or say the wrong thing? Sure it's a tough decision but if you have an entire campaign to consult with why didn't you use your resources?

I am a 39 year old single mother of two girls 9 and 14. I am educated, beautiful and successful and have a good job . I met my prince charming online, went on few dates. In my life I have had mishaps when it comes to men. This guy was handsome, well educated and he is every woman dream. I was so excited to finally meet somebody like him, after meeting a couple of free loaders. He was my dream come true. My excitement about my prince charming ended when I landed in his bed of hell.

My first concern was his unwillingness to use protection, and I insisted that since we don't know each other that long, that was the safest thing to do. I asked him about his status and he said he was clean, he has no diseases and he was going to show me, his status. I was concerned when I realized that he had secretly removed the protection during the encounter, and he told me that he does not like using them. After this day, I called and told him that I needed to see his hiv status and he said. Yea I will send it to you.
As I was waiting impatiently I noticed that he was a bit different. I called him and told him strongly but politely that I needed to know his status. That was the last day I ever heard from him. He stopped calling me; he never answered my calls nor returns them. I called him at work and he told me not to bother him anymore, I must leave him alone.

6 months later I tested positive for hiv. What do I do? Do I sue him? Do I let him do this to other women? Should I sit and accept it as my fate. I am devastated. "Here he comes y'all, let's make room for Robin Thicke y'all," says the DJ on the turntables last night. wanna love you girl wanna love you girl Robin's music blared through the speakers as me and my fellow go2girl stood in the small yet cozy lounge on Grove street waiting for Grammy award winner Robin to walk through the crowd, so we can get a glimpse of that big ol' head.Lol Robin appeared before us wearing a black coat (looked pretty expensive to me) with a black scarf and some jeans. We got that magic the DJ switched up to another Robin Thicke song as he was seated in the near "VIP" section. Ironically that's where Nickia and I was. Robin extended his hand to me, I shook it and smiled. "I just want to say hi," he said. Very humble being I must say. "aww thanks, I love your music," I replied. I'm lost without you, cant help my self, how does it feel the DJ was on a roll with all Robin records. Nickia fixed her hair in the mirror before we were photo'd with Thicke. The only thing I could say to him after the photo was taken is "How's your dad?" He gave me a look like why the hell are you asking me this. Robin stands before the lounge on the mic' and says "thanks for coming out NYC I love you, it's all about Barack Obama this year," Overall we had a great time, and Robin's album is in stores today. I'm definitely going to purchase it!

According to WLWT (Cincinnati) Michelle Allen (above) of Middletown, OH was charged with disorderly conduct last night. Allen allegedly chased children, took a bathroom break on her neighbor’s porch and caused traffic problems on a local highway with a refreshing scent of Alcohol on her breath.

He once had a restaurant which opened around the same time as Justin's; in comparison his food was Tasty, the setting was decent and Justin's...well Justin's was Diddy’s. Diddy is a man with Exquisite taste, a purveyor of Class (put his name on it - the world will flock)...

I must admit he's been on his grind; appearing on 7 episodes of Girlfriends, once on That's So Raven and appearing in many films that I've never heard of (AT ALL)...except Tyler Perry's, "Why Did I Get Married?"

I understand we're all human and want to be left alone sometimes (with the fame - be it little or tons - comes the fans), but if you haven’t been Bothered in the Past 14 Years then you Need to Slow Your Roll Tito...

Being the observant one that I am I noticed a woman asked to take a picture and he hit her with the deuces. Therefore I said let me confirm this guy really said no, so I approached him as well and he hits me with "I'm Chillin." Only two people wanted a picture with/of you, but you had more important matters to tend to...I hope "Chillin" in the VIP section that "Robin Thicke" and his entourage graced with poise, dignity, respect and most importantly "Plenty of Bottles," before heading over to Marquee for T.I.'s party was relaxing for you...

Ciara, isn't a one-hit wonder and people still can remember milestones in her life:

-Her first single, My Goodies
-Her 1st Celebrity Relationship with Bow Wow
-Being called a Hermaphrodite
-Being a RockaWear Model
-And her So-Called relationship with 50...

Clearly she is neither No Beyonce nor Rihanna but she's managed to get over the sophomore jinx and will soon be releasing her third album....

I understand that we are in a Recession, Times are hard and you have to Make Ends Meet (By Any Means Necessary)...BUT, one should thoroughly analyze any and everything they decide to involve their self with.

To 'allegedly' call out a well-respected Editor-in-Chief, Danyel Smith, who persistently keeps VIBE Magazine fresh, colorful and interesting, is a bit much.

In my opinion, it makes no sense that in every pose she's covering up her "Goodies" with her arms and/or legs as if she weren't wearing clothes (which she clearly isn't)...but why would someone wearing clothes pose like that?

I think someone brought it to her attention, that she might lose fans and possible endorsements…therefore she’s trying to clean it up.
